Disability Friendly

Disability Friendly is a small independent family company based in Northampton, that provides a bespoke assessment to your business premises as seen from a disabled persons point of view. Highlighting areas of opportunity to enhance the experience for your less abled guests.

Who am I?

As a bilateral leg amputee for over 10 years, a manual wheelchair and mobility scooter user, and also due to injury, I also have weakness in my upper limbs and problems with fine dexterity. I see and face challenges every day. But it does not stop me from living a full and purposeful life.

Being mentally strong and determined, I want to use what I have learnt in life to help improve the experiences of other less abled people.

Over the years I have seen so many things that able bodied people take for granted or do not even see, yet from a disabled persons point of view they can be a big challenge or obstacle.

Example:
When you are walking along the pavement, are you consciously scanning the ground ahead for obstructions and looking where the next dropped kerb is to plan your route?

I know I am, I am always looking and planning ahead.

Want to know more about my background?

Before taking the difficult decision to have my first leg amputated, I searched the Internet for information and real-life amputation experiences to understand what I would face. At the time, I found very little. It occurred to me that if I was looking, others could be looking as well, so I decided that I would write and share my own experiences instead.
